WEEK 13: A Practical Example: the Story of Linux

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN KALI LINUX AND UBUNTU?

Because Kali Linux and Ubuntu are both based on Debian, they look to be comparable. You wouldn't be able to tell which system you're running if it weren't for Kali Linux's default desktop environment. The primary distinction between the two operating systems is their intended audience, which determines the programs available through the distribution.

Because Kali Linux was created with security experts in mind, it includes a number of penetration testing and security programs that help users to get up and running quickly.

Ubuntu is aimed at the typical computer user, not a specific demographic. It has a more appealing user interface, or in other words, a more user-friendly user interface.

Because you can install any program on any operating system, the decision boils down to personal choice and technical competence.

WHAT SHOULD I CHOOSE?

Kali Linux comes pre-installed with over 600 penetration testing tools, as well as the flexibility to easily install new apps. As a result, Kali Linux is an excellent vulnerability testing platform. But what good are all these applications if you can't figure out how to utilize them?

What about the possibility of hacking? Is it really necessary to have 600+ applications that all accomplish the same thing? What advice may be given? Continue to use this distribution if you are a security professional with adequate knowledge to filter which of the 600+ Kali programs will be beneficial to you.

If you're new to network security or Linux, start with Ubuntu to familiarize yourself with the system before moving on to specialist distributions like Kali Linux and BackBox.

Of course, Kali Linux can help you get started with Linux, but it's more difficult than you would expect. Ubuntu is more user-friendly for new Linux users; its most recent version has an appealing user interface and may be used for Linux certification examinations.

Which of the two distributions would you recommend for security testing?
